Renowned Ghanaian actress and media personality, Nana Ama McBrown says she doesn’t attach any significance to negative comments about her on social media to avoid going into a state of depression.
In a recent live stream, the host of Onua Showtime indicated that she adopted the strategy to preserve her mental wellbeing.
“If you are someone who cannot read and see that the things people write can be rubbish or something sensible, and decide to swallow everything, you will always be depressed. You must see the difference.
“On social media, everybody speaks their mind, everybody sees their opinion as facts”, explained McBrown, shedding light on the challenging landscape of social media where opinions often blur the lines between positive feedback and baseless criticism.
She highlighted the difficulties of dealing with critics who don’t consider the emotional state of celebrities.
“Sometimes, you may not be in a good mood or not and yet can’t explain to everybody. You can’t always reply to that person who insulted you. So know yourself. If the person isn’t bringing anything positive to your life, ignore it,” McBrown noted.
McBrown’s comments align with a growing awareness among celebrities regarding the mental health challenges they face in the era of the rise of social media.
Celebrities such as Kuami Eugene and Funny Face have publicly condemned cyberbullying of celebrities in the past and equally charged trolls to recognise the personal struggles of celebrities.
