The Dark Truth About Small Scale illegal Mining "Galamsey" - Nana Kwadwo Sarfo Speaks

Nana Kwadwo Safo (GNUTS National PRO Candidate)

Illegal mining also known as (galamsey) ravages Ghana, polluting water, destroying forests, and displacing communities. Despite government rhetoric, corruption and greed perpetuate the scourge. Artisanal miners, including children, face toxic conditions, while billions are lost to illicit exports.

The call by citizens for the government to step in and help has been very vital, ironically, protestors fighting to save their lands and livelihoods are arrested, silenced, and intimidated.

The government prioritizes mining interests over citizens' rights. Urgent action is needed to stem the environmental and social devastation. Will Ghana's leaders heed the call, or will the voice of the people continue to be suppressed?

Ghana, our beloved nation, where the colours of our flag once symbolized hope and unity.

The red- represents the blood and toil of our fathers who fought for independence from colonial rule which we are still enjoying as a sovereign nation.

Yellow- signifies our rich mineral wealth.

Green- embodies our lush forests and natural resources. However, today, these very symbols of our national pride are under threat.

Our minerals are being exploited, our forests destroyed, and our water bodies polluted by both legal and illegal mining activities.

The consequences are dire: birth deformities due to harmful chemicals and metals in our food and water, and a deteriorating national health.

Yet, when citizens dare to protest, they're charged with treason and arraigned in court.

Galamsey's illicit grip destroys Ghana's lands, waters, and futures. Communities suffer, families are torn apart, and hope fades.

Let's unite for change. We urge systemic reform, corporate accountability, and citizen empowerment. Release protesters wrongly arrested and protect those fighting for justice. Ensure environmental restoration, compensate affected communities, and secure Ghana's future. We stand together for urgent action and compassionate leadership.

Nana Kwadwo Safo

This is a call to action, a rallying cry to the Ghanaian youth. ARISE! Let's fight for our rights, for the preservation of our nation's wealth, and for the future of our children.

Together, we can reclaim our nation's glory and ensure a brighter future for generations to come. Let's rise up, Ghanaian youth, and take control of our destiny.

Nana Kwadwo Safo believes that the government will hear the cry of the people and will act accordingly as they have already begun.
