Children of Tema Parents Association School Call for Peace On Learners Day: A Hopeful Message Ahead of Election 2024. Story by Michael Dordzavu

As Ghana approaches the pivotal 2024 elections, the election is described by many as a crucial one in the history of the country. A powerful message of peace emerges from an unlikely source: the children of Tema Parents Association School in Tema, with their innocent voices and heartfelt pleas, these young pupils urged citizens to embrace peace, underscoring how vital it is for the future of their generation and the country. The children made this call when they joined other children to celebrate International Learners’ Day.

The Call For Peace From The Hearts Of The Children.

In a world often shaped by political divisions and tension, it’s easy to forget that the consequences of conflict are often felt most deeply by children. The school children of Tema Parents Association School understand this truth in ways that many adults do not. Their message is simple but profound: “Peace is better than war.” They demonstrated their call for peace through poetry recitals, drawings and paintings.

These children, with their hopeful eyes and tender hearts, know that peace is the foundation of a thriving society. They understand that the innocence of childhood should not be overshadowed by the dark shadows of violence and conflict. Their call for peace is not just a plea for the present, but an urgent reminder that the future of Ghana depends on the choices made today.

“We don’t want to be afraid,” said one of the students during a recent peace initiative. “We want to play, to learn, and to grow without worrying about war or fighting.”

Why the need for Peace in times like this?

Children are often the most vulnerable during times of political unrest. They are not only directly affected by the physical dangers of war, but also by the emotional and psychological toll it takes on their young minds. Their education is disrupted, their families displaced, and their sense of safety shattered.

We want Peace and not war.

For the pupils of Tema Parents Association School, the idea of a future marked by fear and violence is unthinkable. They dream of a world where they can study, play, and live without the looming threat of conflict. It’s in their eyes—those glimmers of hope—that we are reminded of the true cost of war and the unspoken importance of peace.

A Peace Pact Signed

In a positive development, the political landscape of Ghana has seen a significant step toward peace. Ahead of the 2024 elections, various political parties have signed a peace pact, committing to ensure a violence-free election period. John Dramani Maham, flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) who are the two leading candidates were present and signed the pact as well.

The pact highlights the importance of maintaining unity and respect for the democratic process, reassuring the public that the election will be peaceful and fair.

This peace pact is a crucial move in setting the tone for the upcoming elections. It also serves as an encouraging sign that the voices of those like the Tema Parents Association School pupils are being heard. The leadership of the country is taking steps to safeguard the future of Ghana’s children, ensuring that their calls for peace are not just heard, but acted upon.

Schools like Tema Parents Association School are instrumental in fostering values of peace, respect, and unity in young people. These children, through their peace initiatives, are learning the importance of being peacemakers, not just in their immediate communities but in the larger world. Their efforts show that peace isn’t just about avoiding conflict; it’s about actively building a culture of understanding and kindness.

“Peace begins with us,” shouted the children, “and we want to share it with everyone.”

We need Peace said the children.

A Message to the Adults

As the 2024 elections draw near, it’s important that we, as a society, listen to the message of the children. The future of Ghana lies in the hands of its youngest citizens, and they are calling on all of us, leaders, voters, and citizens alike to put peace first. They are the ones who will inherit the outcomes of this election, and they deserve a future free from the scars of conflict.

Let’s heed their call. Let’s embrace peace for the sake of our children and the future of Ghana.

 A Future Built on Peace

The children of Tema Parents Association School have reminded us of something simple but crucial: peace is the foundation upon which a brighter future is built. Their message is a call not just to political leaders, but to every Ghanaian. As we approach the 2024 elections, let us all join hands in ensuring a peaceful and prosperous future—for the children, for the nation, and for the world.
